In 2026, the HISP Centre at the University of Oslo is launching the DHIS2 Awards, a new awards program celebrating the people, partnerships, and commitment to open-source technology and knowledge sharing that make the DHIS2 ecosystem thrive.
Open to all members of the global DHIS2 community, these awards recognize outstanding contributions that demonstrate innovation, collaboration, research, and real-world impact using DHIS2. The award ceremony will take place during the 2026 DHIS2 Annual Conference.
Award Categories
Submissions are now open in the following categories:
Impact Award
The Impact Award recognizes work with DHIS2 that has achieved significant results. These impacts can be from any domain where DHIS2 is deployed-including health, education, logistics, climate, agriculture, and beyond-that show clear evidence of positive change, whether through improved service delivery, expanded program reach, enhanced data quality, better decision-making, or tangible benefits for communities and populations served. Nominations should include specific results and demonstrate how DHIS2 was involved in achieving these outcomes. Nominations can be for demonstrated impact from the past year or sustained results from ongoing DHIS2 projects and systems.
Innovation in Use Award
The Innovation in Use Award celebrates creative and novel applications of DHIS2 that solve problems in new ways, address previously unmet needs, or demonstrate unique approaches to implementation challenges. This may include innovative integrations with other systems, creative uses of DHIS2 features, novel solutions to data collection or analysis challenges, or implementations that expand DHIS2 into new domains or use cases. Nominations should highlight what makes the approach innovative, how the innovation is being actively used, and the potential benefit it offers to the broader DHIS2 community.
Research Award
The Research Award honors a researcher who has published high-quality research that advances understanding of DHIS2's impact, explores innovative uses of the platform, contributes to the evidence base for digital information systems across health, education, logistics, climate, and other sectors, or provides insights that benefit the DHIS2 community. This award recognizes peer-reviewed publications, working papers, technical reports, or other research outputs from the past year that demonstrate rigor, relevance, and contribution to knowledge. Nominations should include publication details and a brief summary of the research and its significance.
Contribution Award
The Contribution Award recognizes an individual or group that has made exceptional contributions to supporting, strengthening, and growing the DHIS2 platform and/or the DHIS2 community. This can include contributing DHIS2 code, documentation, or training materials; sharing knowledge and resources; answering technical questions, providing support, and building capacity; or other significant contributions of time and effort to DHIS2 as a global good. Nominations should describe the nominee's contributions and their impact.
